Nintendo Switch Online coming September 2018

The Nintendo Switch Online service which was initially expected to be launched in 2017, will be arriving in September this year. Additionally, a Mario Kart Tour game for smartphones will be rolled out in the fiscal year ending March 2019, and an animated movie starring Mario is also in the works.

Not enough information about Nintendo Switch Online has been provided officially. Much of what we know is from details presented on the website dedicated to the same. The multiplayer gaming service is currently free to use, and will remain so until its paid version is unveiled in September 2018.

The monthly subscription charges before taxes will be $19.99 a year, $7.99 for a three-month membership and $3.99 for monthly renewal. The service will allow online play for compatible and co-operative games. Users will be able to access the Nintendo Switch Online app, of course.

The application will let folks invite people on their Nintendo system’s friends list to a game and voice chat while playing. Titles like Super Mario Bros. 3, Dr. Mario and Balloon Fight will be available as part of the Classic Games Selection. Customers will even be able to enjoy discounts on digital games and more.

In other news, Nintendo has revealed that the Switch has wildly outsold the Wii U since the former’s March 2017 launch. It boasts of more than 14 million units shipped till date, while the Wii U claims 13.5 million in lifetime sales. The success in hardware sales has naturally translated into higher software sales.
