So Legend of Zelda for Switch somehow sold more copies than Nintendo Switch

Have you ever bought a game without knowing when you’ll lay hands on the console it can play on? Neither have we. Well, Nintendo Switch fans are apparently okay with doing things the other way around. According to the NPD Group that tracks sales of video games stateside, over 906,000 units of the Switch were sold in March. This makes it the fastest selling gaming system ever.

Of course, you could say it’s been a dry month for console launches. Weirdly enough, more than 925,000 copies of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Switch were snapped up during this same period (460,000 units sold for the Wii U). The figures add up to 1.3 million, another record breaking achievement that makes it the fastest selling Nintendo launch game.

It’s also now the fastest selling title in the The Legend of Zelda series. We’ll have an official idea of Nintendo Switch sales when the company presents its fiscal-year earnings report on April 27. All we know now is that a lot of folks who’ve bought Legend of Zelda for Switch probably do not have the hybrid console yet, but are hoping to get their paws on one sooner than later.

Nintendo Switch

Or maybe some enthusiasts purchased a limited edition for collecting and a different copy for playing on their Switch, because the figure of 925,000 in sales covers all versions of Breath of the Wild. Meanwhile, Nintendo is said to be trying hard to keep up with the demand for the Switch, and is continually shipping them out to eager customers.

Makes a sound argument for launching a decent gaming system in time for the summer holidays and just long enough after Christmas to ensure gamers can cough up the dough for it.
