Nintendo is getting into the movie business again

If a new report is to be believed, Nintendo’s current CEO has said that a full-fledged film can be expected to be churned out by the company in the next two to three years. No plans regarding what franchise this film will be based on have been revealed however.

Nintendo isn’t quite doing well against the Xbox Ones and PS4s out there, and this could be a reason it’s looking towards filmmaking to up its revenues. It’s not something the firm is new to either; fans will remember flicks like Super Mario Bros. and others that have been released by it in the past.

As revealed by GameSpot, the CEO of Nintendo, Tatsumi Kimishima has shared some details about the future plans of the firm in an interview with Japan’s Asahi Shimbun Kimishima. He has said that they are currently looking for a production system where they do as much as they can themselves.

Having its first movie in years ready to be showcased in the next two to three years is another goal which Kimishima revealed. It was only in February this year that Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto said that the firm sees itself as an ‘entertainment’ company and was not opposed to the idea of films.

Rumors have told us that Nintendo will be releasing a new console this year which has been codenamed NX for now. While it was earlier slated to be unveiled at this year’s E3, reports are saying that it will now be showcased during the Tokyo Game Show.
