We’re eagerly awaiting movie projects based on Assassin’s Creed, Halo, Hitman, Need for Speed as well as Devil May Cry, and we now have one more film to look forward to in the form of the Metal Gear Solid movie which was announced yesterday. Columbia Pictures, which is of course a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment, will be producing the flick.

Kotaku has some details that we’d like to share. According to the website, the movie will be handled by Avi Arad, who’s past works include many superhero films. Apparently, Arad has been instrumental in bringing Marvel comics to the silver screen. During the unveiling of the film at 25th anniversary event of the Metal Gear series, Arad emphasized on how comic books are the biggest genre in cinema today, and how video games are slowly taking over their share now.
”˜We will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, ideology, cautionary tales needed,’ he mentioned while on stage, according to a Tweet by @johntv who was present at the occasion. It is being said that Arad was also part of movies under the Uncharted and Mass Effect franchises, which are still very much stuck in uncertainty. He has acted as producer to movies such as The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Blade: Trinity, Ghost Rider, X-Men, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy as well as the latest Spider-Man film.
Meanwhile, apart from the Metal Gear Solid movie, the event also saw the first glimpses of MGS: Ground Zeroes, the newest main game under the massive franchise.
