Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD Hits 120,000 Downloads in First Week

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, Robomodo’s re-imagination of the classic skateboarding video game series, has managed to pick up 120,000 downloads within just one week, since its launch on July 18. And these figures have only been achieved through the game’s Xbox Live release, as its PSN and PC versions are still to be launched by publisher Activision.

The game’s developer revealed the news of this milestone in an interview with Gamasutra recently. While talking to the website, Josh Tsui of Robomodo expressed that day-over-day sales of the title are ‘staying very consistent.’ According to him, it is word of mouth between Xbox 360 owners that’s helping the game’s XBLA sales.

He also supposes that downloads of THPS HD have been good owing to the fact that players are more inclined towards going for games that are ‘smaller and downloadable.’ This title was released on July 18 via Xbox Live’s Summer of Arcade promotion. While it will be hitting PSN in August, its PC version is planned for later this year.

Developed using the Unreal Engine 3 technology, this high-definition re-release kicks in classic levels from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. It also offers online multiplayer support for up to four players. Moreover, worldwide leaderboards have been introduced by the developer as well.

The selling of 120,000 digital copies of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD in one week is an indication of how popular the franchise still is. We won’t be surprised if a new game under the series is announced in the future. Meanwhile THPS HD can be bought via Xbox Live now for 1200 Microsoft Points.
