Insomniac Games Will No Longer Develop Resistance Titles

It has been officially corroborated that no more Resistance titles will be developed by Insomniac Games. The much loved Resistance 3 was the last title to have come from the California-based studio, with the latest one – Resistance: Burning Skies, being developed for the PS Vita by Nihilistic Software.

While talking to VG247, Ted Price of Insomniac told the website that the studio will no longer be working on any Resistance games. At the moment, a majority of its attention is focused on the multiplatform Overstrike which was announced at the E3 last year. The video posted below is a clarification coming from Price himself about the whole situation. In this video he has pointed out that though Insomniac won’t be involved in the Resistance series, more games developed under the franchise by other studios like Nihilistic Software might just be expected.

Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac Games, states in the video, “I did want to confirm it face-to-face that we are not moving on with the Resistance franchise. Now, a question we’ve gotten through our forums and through e-mails is ‘why’? Well, we believe that Resistance has reached its logical conclusion in terms of the story we wanted to tell. However, that doesn’t mean the Resistance franchise isn’t continuing.”

Resistance 3 was released to much fanfare in September last year and had quite a lot of appreciation coming its way. While the first game in the series, Resistance: Fall of Man came in 2006, the second offering was launched in 2008 in the form of Resistance 2. As of now, fans of the series can keep looking forward to Resistance: Burning Skies which is slated to slip out during summer of this year.

With Insomniac Games having said goodbye to the Resistance series, Overstrike will be the first multiplatform offering arriving from the studio which has been developing games for Sony’s consoles since its inception in 1994.
