PSN Logins Disabled, Sony Does Not Point Finger at Potential Exploit

Sony’s been facing more than a fair share of trouble lately, first with having to restore services and now with this. But apparently, it’s nothing the company can’t handle. The official Sony PlayStation blog has been telling everyone that the PSN and Qriocity password reset pages were not taken down due to a hack.

Sony PSN Hack

The post is an explanation for the said page going offline recently and also a reaction to word from the Nyleveia website. Ever since the story broke, the glitch with the way in which users are asked to reset their passwords seems to display a glaring oversight on the part of the company.

Basically, hitting out the relevant e-mail address and date of birth is enough to allow users to reset their password for the service. This means that anyone with these two pieces of information can change the concerned member’s password without too much difficulty.

The funny thing is that Sony denies reports of such a breach and cites a URL exploit as the cause of the PSN and Qriocity password rest page being taken off temporarily.
