Harmonix Breaks Away from Viacom

Harmonix and MTV Games, a division of Viacom, have engineered a rock solid platform for their music simulator Rock Band. The two companies are said to have had their share of ups and downs while dishing out some fabulous experiences for gaming enthusiasts. Now, according to a post on the official Rock Band forum, the two gaming giants have parted ways.

Harmonix’s PR representative John Drake has elucidated in the post that with the separation, the organization will trace its route as an independent studio. The post also explains that it will keep the DLC schedule marches for their acclaimed production, Rock Band, on tracks while bringing out ‘some unannounced projects’.

“Viacom and MTV Networks have been an amazing home for us over the past 4 years. It’s where we launched both Rock Band and Dance Central, worked with The Beatles, Green Day, AC/DC, The Who and thousands of other artists. We want to take a moment to thank everyone in that organization who helped make these awesome games possible,” posted John Drake, PR representative, Harmonix.

This announcement has been confirmed by Viacom on their official website which stated that ‘it has sold Harmonix Music Systems to Harmonix-SBE Holdings LLC’. Harmonix has been purchased by an investment group Columbus Nova for an undisclosed amount. Last month, Viacom had voiced its intention to sell Harmonix, amidst rumors of financial disputes between the two. Though none of the companies ever made an official announcement with regards to this matter, the gaming circuit had been flooded with vivid claims.

With the partnership coming to an end, we now anticipate more on individual platters of both Harmonix and MTV Games. Nonetheless, we’ll miss the good old Harmonic and MTV Games’ Rock Band days.
