The website has mentioned that Paul Anderson’s new movie will kick start a new trilogy and that it will be the biggest Resident Evil movie ever, in terms of budget. Anderson has been a part of the movie franchise right from the start having directed the first movie and donning the role of writer and producer for the two sequels. Paul Anderson explained, “I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films. And we’ve been very lucky where it’s a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I’m really excited we’re doing it [in 3-D] and we’re using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don’t regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise.”

Apparently, a few new characters from Resident Evil video games, and some from the earlier movies will feature in the new film, which is expected to be out on September 17, 2010. The eight week long shoot is projected to start at Toronto’s Cinespace Film Studios in September.
