Recently in an interview with Gizmodo, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer was asked about the possibility for Blu-Ray on the Xbox 360. Everybody seemed to jump at his reply and naturally assume that Blu-Ray for the 360 was all but confirmed. It’s safe to say that his response was taken as something it was not made out to be.
Now stepping in to clear any confusion that might have ensued, Xbox’s Major Nelson says that Ballmer was actually referring Blu-Ray accessories for the PC, rather than the possibility of Blu-Ray on the Xbox 360. He goes on to dispel all doubt by saying that there are absolutely no plans for Blu-Ray on 360s.
“Steve was referring to Blu-Ray accessories for the PC,” Major Nelson writes in a post on his website. “As we have said in the past, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360. In fact, the future of home entertainment starts very soon when Xbox 360 becomes the first and only console to offer instant-on 1080p streaming HD movies.”
So there you have it! No Blu-Ray on the Xbox 360. But with a library of high-definition TV shows and movies to choose from, who needs Blu-Ray! Xbox 360 owners will be able to instantly watch just the movies they want, when they want.
