Nintendo DS, Sony PSP Top Pre-Christmas Sales In Japan

We all know that gamers in Japan apparently have a penchant for portable gaming consoles. Handhelds are very, very popular over there and in fact, Sony PSP was the leading hardware in 2008 in Japan. As for the Nintendo DS, well, the handheld gaming console sold two lakh copies in a week in Japan.

It seems that the portable gaming consoles are ruling the charts Japan pre-Christmas. According to the latest data, the Nintendo DS has topped the charts as it has sold some 204,100 units for the week ending December 21, 2008. The second-best selling console in Japan is the Sony PSP that has shifted some 145,957 consoles over there.

The Nintendo Wii sold 131,054 units in Japan last week. The other consoles, Microsoft Xbox 360 shifted 12,914 consoles while the Sony PS3 and the Sony PS2 sold 39,136 consoles and 8,662 consoles respectively. This is the second time that the Nintendo DS has crossed the two lakh mark on Japan in a week.
