Nintendo Consoles Reign Supreme in June 2008

Last month was busy for most of the gaming companies, some were busy preparing for E3, some like Sony and Microsoft had a hectic month as they had Metal Gear Solid 4 and Ninja Gaiden II, which were released for their respective consoles. Now figures from market research company NPD indicate that the Nintendo DS and Wii reigned supreme in June 2008.

Anita Frazier is an analyst with NPD. She explained, “Even if growth slows over the back half of 2008, the industry is poised to achieve record-breaking revenues of over USD 22 billion for the year. Looking at historical data, hardware price reductions have been a good incentive for a broader consumer base to invest in a new-gen system, which encourages continued industry growth across all categories.”
