Video Games to be Censored in India

Video Games Censored in India The year 2007 was one of the best for gamers in India. There were so many gaming tournaments, events and game launches. However, it seems that 2008 will not be that great for Indian gamers. DNA is reporting that Censor Board chief Sharmila Tagore has confirmed that the Information & Broadcast Ministry has given the green signal to censor the video games.

Sharmila Tagore is the chairperson of the Censor Board. She explained, “This is true that there is a proposal that the Censor Board should start censoring all video games – and I agree with proposal totally. We have already submitted our proposal to the ministry and the draft is being considered by them.”

A source in the Information & Broadcast Ministry of India told DNA, “Parents have been voicing their concerns against such computer games for a long time now. We decided it’s high time we introduce censorship in computer and video games.”

The proposal will make it compulsory for the manufacturer to have a certificate on the cover of the video game, the same way it is done on the covers of DVDs. The Censor board will classify the video games according to age groups. They will also state the age for which the video game is suitable.
