Nintendo to Conduct Live Cinema Ads

Nintendo feels that it hasn’t done enough to promote the Wii, which by the way is facing a supply shortage. Nintendo has collaborated with CommentUK for live interactive Wii Sports advertisements in movie theaters across the United Kingdom.

These ads will feature two actors, one who will play as Steve while the other one will play the role of Elsa, his mother. Steve will sit amongst the audience, while Elsa will come into the theater looking for him. She will then challenge him to a replay of Nintendo Wii tennis in front of the viewers. Steve has to accept it and so he plays Wii Tennis and becomes involved in the game.

Dean McKain, MD, CommentUK says, “The live, interactive ad wonderfully illustrates that Nintendo Wii Sports is for all ages and demonstrates just how thrilling and easy it is to play. We expect to reach thousands of cinema goers over the next two weeks, and as we know that recall rates for this type of live communication are huge (as much as 89% after 4 weeks), we feel sure that the word of mouth viral effect of the activity will have a positive impact for the brand.”

Five pairs of actors will make an appearance at nine cinemas in Greenwich, Stratford East, Cambridge, Liverpool, Edinburgh, York, Southampton and Brixton. Anyway, it seems to be a great idea. However, I feel the PS3 needs such advertisements as it has not been doing that well, especially in North America.
