The GTA IV trailer that was released last week is already getting the attention it wanted or maybe even more. Taking a cue from their Mexican counterparts, New York City officials have condemned the game.

Jason Post, a spokesperson for Mayor Bloomberg said, “The mayor does not support any video game where you earn points for injuring or killing police officers.” Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly added, “It’s despicable to glamorize violence in games like these, regardless of how far-fetched the setting may be.”

City Councilman Peter Vallone, who is also the Chairperson of the Council’s Public Safety Committee commented, “Setting Grand Theft Auto in the safest big city in America would be like setting Halo in Disneyland.”

The first Grand Theft Auto IV footage had shown most of the famous Big Apple landmarks. The game is set in a fictional city known as Liberty City, which is very familiar to NY. However, the trailer does state that ‘this time things will be different’ and GTA fans are expecting lots and lots of violence in the game. Incidentally the new video does not show any violence at all.
