Probably the biggest game for the Xbox Series X/S consoles yet, Halo Infinite is all set to release on December 8 this year, according to a new report. Microsoft is still to confirm this date, but it had appeared for a short while on the Microsoft Store, as reported by The Verge.
Halo Infinite was originally supposed to arrive along with the Xbox Series X/S, however, pandemic-led delays had set its release date back by one year. Despite the delay, things aren’t looking quite rosy over at 343 Industries.
It was announced recently that upon launch, Halo Infinite will not include its campaign co-op support and Forge mode. They will instead be released as part of the second season around three months following the game’s launch.
Co-op support for the campaign has been an integral part of the Halo experience and this move has definitely left fans disappointed. And as for the Forge mode, it allows gamers to customize and share maps.
What will be a worthy consolation is that the multiplayer portion of Halo Infinite will be free-to-play in nature. The campaign story will continue the Master Chief arc following the events of Halo 5: Guardians.
The Halo series has been synonymous with the Xbox brand and so it’s no surprise that the marquee title is returning for the next generation of Microsoft’s consoles. Its development hasn’t quite been a smooth ride though.
Last August, 343 Industries announced the hiring of Joseph Staten, the former lead writer and cinematic director of the Halo series at Bungie. He was supposed to serve as the Campaign Project Lead but his role was later changed to Head of Creative. Moreover, in October last year, news came that Studio Head Chris Lee had departed the project.
Microsoft is still to officially confirm the Halo Infinite release date but accidental listings on the Microfost Store always have a tendency to be authentic.
