Ubisoft spills some Far Cry 5 secrets

It’s been some time since Ubisoft confirmed that it would be launching Far Cry 5 before April 2018 at the latest. But the announcement which was made at the company’s earnings report for fiscal year 2016 – 17, failed to mention any specifics. The last offering in the franchise was Far Cry Primal in 2016, though it was not strictly a continuation of the series. Far Cry 4 came out in 2014.

Some more official details for Far Cry 5 have emerged since last week’s reveal. Ubisoft has tweeted the beginnings of a logo design for the game. The publisher has also uploaded four teaser videos of the title in question, confirming widespread rumors that the upcoming installment will be set in America. In this case, it’s Hope County, Montana.

You can hear a man screaming in one of the trailers; another teaser depicts a person repeatedly bashing someone’s head into a church bell. Then there’s yet another part showing a guy being shot in the back as he runs through a field in an obvious attempt to get away from his unseen captors. Check out the trailer below to get an idea of it.

If you’re thinking of some crazy religious cult in Montana (a departure from the settings Ubisoft usually uses), you’re probably right. A Reddit user posted some details about Far Cry 5 a few days ago. According to him/her, the game takes place in the present day and has some sort of militant cult leader and a Tom Cruise-ish character as its main antagonists.

More will be revealed on May 26, though you shouldn’t keep your hopes high since Ubisoft has to save some of the cookies for E3. Apart from Far Cry 5, the company is also lining up The Crew 2, a new Assassin’s Creed game and role playing title South Park: The Fractured But Whole for release by March 31 next year.
