Doom 4 revealed to be a reboot, will just be called Doom

The extremely anticipated reveal of Doom 4 has finally taken place, but alas, the game has been shown to a select few attendees of QuakeCon 2014. But we have extracted crucial details related to the upcoming next-gen game, prime among them being the fact that it will be a reboot rather than a sequel, and will just be called Doom. It will be created for the PS4, Xbox One and PC, and as for its release date details, they have been kept under the shroud at the moment.

Doom

This game is being developed using the newly developed id Tech 6 engine with the same first-person shooter model that was popularized by the earlier Doom games. At the QuakeCon, a closed-door preview was granted to a few visitors and Eurogamer has rounded up most of the information revealed by the attendees. This title will feature double-jumping, apart from ‘fast paced and competitive’ multiplayer.

Delving deeper into its gameplay features, there will be a weapons wheel which will grab a radial menu. When it is being accessed the world will slow down, letting you select your preferred weapon. Regenerating health which is uncharacteristic of the Doom concept, won’t form part of the game. Melee will apparently play a big role in it, with chainsaws also forming part of the armory. The game has also been confirmed to run at 60 fps in 1080p full HD resolution.

We’ll have more on this next-gen Doom game when additional details on it will be out.
