Tribes: Ascend exceeds 1 Million downloads in first month

Hi-Rez, the developer of Tribes: Ascend, has announced that the title has already surpassed one million downloads within a month of being available. The free-to-play multiplayer-only game was released on April 12, 2012 and has notched up 1.2 million downloads to date.

“We’re thrilled that over 1 million gamers have discovered the fast-paced and skill-based gameplay of Tribes,” Todd Harris, Hi-Rez Studios Chief Operating Officer expressed rather enthusiastically. “It is truly the player support of the title that has driven the population growth and fuels our team to deliver updates.”

The science fiction series which began with a Dynamix offering in November 1998 has come a long way since then. Fans last received a ‘Tribes’ title in 2004 with Tribes: Vengence, and while we wait for the MMO shooter Tribes Universe, Ascend will have to plug our multiplayer killing needs.

The fast-paced game got a boost recently with a ‘friend referral system’ and Hi-Rez reveals that more than 110,000 players have joined via the system. The friend referral system offers incentives for players to invite their friends, and the more they invite, the larger the rewards on offer. The gameplay teaser, after the jump, shows just how zany the action can get.

“We see the community expanding primarily thru positive word of mouth,” Todd Harris added. “Since release we’ve already recognized seven players who have each individually referred over 500 new people to Tribes: Ascend. The game’s success allows us to give back to the community through free DLC updates, tournament events and expansion into new markets in coming months.”

Three free DLC updates have been released so far for the online shooter which is available free of cost.
