At the recently concluded QuakeCon event in Texas, co-founder of id Software, John Carmack, broke this news while speaking to Polygon. It’s still unclear as to how the technology will be incorporated into the game. This much talked about product hit Kickstarter recently and has managed to surpass 1 million USD against a goal of 250,000 USD with 25 days still to go.

John Carmack from id Software, told the website, “It’s going to be a fully supported feature on there, because I think I could justify — based on the response that we got from our 8-year-old re-release title on here, when we finally do end up giving demos on Doom 4, we’re gonna say, ‘Okay, here’s all this great stuff, run through all this stuff,’ everybody has a great time, and then at the end you can play it in virtual reality, and that’ll just put the stamp on everything. So I think I have good justification for my continued involvement in it.”

The new Doom title is slated to be released for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC sometime in the future. But the vast secrecy surrounding it has led some to speculate that it might be coming out on next-gen consoles. It is being built using the developer’s proprietary id Tech 5 engine which made its debut with last year’s Rage.
