Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary to Feature 3D Support

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is all set to be the first game in the Halo franchise to integrate 3D support. This Xbox 360 exclusive is a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved and will feature re-mastered graphics and audio, using assets from Halo: Reach. It will be released as a celebration of the developer 343 Industries’ ten-year anniversary.

At the recently concluded gamescom, Joystiq had received an private demonstration of the 3D capabilities of the title. This mode works only with the game’s updated graphics mode. Producer Dan Ayoub has confirmed to the website that the framerate will stay ‘consistent’ even with the 3D activated. However, the 3D mode will not be available in splitscreen co-op and also when gamers shift over to Halo’s original graphics engine.

Only yesterday, we had reported about the three new maps which will be a part of this anniversary edition. Timberland, Prisoner and Installation 04 are the names of these maps. Microsoft had announced recently that its immensely anticipated Gears of War 3 would also be able to render itself in 3D on the Xbox 360. This effect will be based on the theory of two distinct images merged into one 720p framebuffer.

Halo 4, which is the seventh installment in the Halo franchise, is slated to release next year. Bungie, who was responsible for the development of all the Halo titles, had handed over the reins of the franchise to Microsoft and 343 Industries earlier this month.

The 3D supported Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will be released worldwide on November 15, 2011 as an Xbox 360 exclusive title.
