Gears of War 3 to be Rendered in 3D

While gamers are brimming with excitement about the immensely-anticipated Gears of War 3, the developer has given them another reason to smile about by revealing that the title will feature stereoscopic 3D support. Epic Games producer, Rod Fergusson, while speaking to Eurogamer, made it known that the title would offer gamers an option for stereoscopic 3D play on compatible televisions.

It is a known fact that the Xbox 360 does not deliver its output in full HDMI 1.4 stereoscopic 3D, 1280×1470 twin 720p framebuffer configurations. This is evident from the resolutions offered by select 3D compatible games like Crysis 2 and Batman: Arkham Asylum which have been released for Microsoft’s console. Fergusson explained that the 3D effect in Gears of War 3 will be based on the theory of two distinct images merged into one 720p framebuffer.

“We asked, could we do it?,” shared Rod Fergusson with the website. “It felt like something we wanted to have. It was a feature we didn’t want to be deficient in. When you look at Gears 1, it was what people used to demo HD at the time. It’s still fledgling technology. It’s still a niche feature. But it was something we could support, so we felt, why not?”

Rod also confirmed that a PS3-like 720p image per eye technology will soon be arriving on the Xbox 360. It will be a part of the next Xbox development Kit and will provide ‘higher quality for native support for 3D.’ But what this revelation also points out is the fact that this trait won’t hit the console prior to the launch of the massive title in question.

The September 20 release date of Gears of War 3 is fast drawing close and developers have already made the game available for pre-order. It is priced at 59.99 USD (approx Rs. 2,720) while its special limited edition version retails for 79.99 USD (approx Rs. 3,627).
