Rage to Consume 8GB Space on PS3 and Span 3 Xbox 360 Discs

id Software has confirmed that its comeback title, Rage which is scheduled to hit markets this October, will devour as much as 8GB of hard drive space on the PS3 consoles besides demanding a total of 3 Xbox 360 discs. The first person shooter is currently under development for consoles and PC. It includes single player as well as multiplayer game modes.

Creative director of id Software, Tim Willits confirmed this news in an interview with Eurogamer. Apart from being a first person shooter, this game also includes vehicular combat, some RPG elements and weapon customizations. The increased space is supposedly due to the inclusion of textures of the ‘highest level.’ For this, Willits has expressed gratitude towards Sony for allowing them to increase the game size to such an extent.

Tim Willits told the website, “Sony was great. Kudos to Sony for letting us do that. They don’t allow every game to do that. So definitely, hats off. What we were able to do is install all the textures to the highest level. What is nice about the PS3 platform is that it’s just one platform. Everyone has one Blu-ray drive, one hard drive, it’s all the same. Some of the other systems you have… should I install it on my 360? Should I not install it? So yes, it’s very nice.”

The 8GB space for PS3 users is a must as the game will be provided on a Blu-ray disc. However, Xbox 360 users won’t be required to install all three discs in order to play the game. This means that they can install the first disc and uninstall it before playing through the second disc. The third disc is meant only for the multiplayer version of the title and so can be ignored by those who don’t wish to play online.

id Software has declared that Rage will be launched in North America on October 4, 2011. It can be currently pre-ordered for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC at a price of 59.99 USD (approx Rs. 2965).
