Skullgirls Game Modes Explained

On the official PlayStation blog, the developer of Skullgirls has gone on to detail the game modes that will be on offer through the downloadable title. Apart from a story mode, this offering is also set to include an arcade mode, an online multiplayer component as well as a practice room and numerous tutorials.

The story mode will revolve around the game’s eight playable characters, and its narrative would be told through a series of short vignettes that will supposedly contain more than two hundred pieces of art, character portraits and new music. This mode is also said to comprise various ‘what if’ scenarios happening across alternate timelines. The arcade mode in Skullgirls will kick in a single player campaign that would ask gamers to pick any team size and fight a number of rounds against the AI. On the other hand, the tutorials and the practice room have been crafted in order to get players used to the basics of the title’s fighting mechanics.

“Not only will these teach you how to play Skullgirls, but they should also help you learn the concepts underlying the fighting game genre as a whole,” explained Peter Bartholow, Designer, Producer, Community Manager, Reverge Labs. “There are 17 courses explaining basic and advanced concepts, from movement to hit confirmation and advanced tactics, some of which use AI to help you learn. Of particular note, we’ve put a heavy emphasis on teaching defense, something of vital importance that is glossed over in most other games. Of course, for the most dedicated of players, we’ve got a Practice Room to help you work on your game.”

The ranked and unranked online matches that make their way into this game will be seen using the GGPO networking library. Apart from all these modes, a custom soundtrack option will also be included, allowing players to have a listen at the title’s music which has been composed by Michiru Yamane, the man behind the tunes of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
