Shank 2 on its way to PSN, Xbox Live and PC Next Year

Last year’s much appreciated fighter Shank will soon be getting a sequel in the form of Shank 2 which is supposed to release for PSN, Xbox Live and PC in early 2012. ‘Fluid brawling’ controls and ‘stunningly beautiful’ visuals are apparently on offer to gamers who play this 2D side-scrolling title.

The narrative of the sequel is somewhat similar to that of its predecessor. Shank, a former mob hitman with a dark and vengeful past, is faced with the task of saving the lives of his close ones. Furthermore, a new arcade-style survival co-op mode would also be making its way into the game. This mode will require gamers to work together so as to take down their opponents while using the environments and weapon pick-ups to continue.

“Creatively, Shank still has a lot to give. We took the feedback from the community and ran with it, putting our own flavor on every change. For Shank 2, we literally took apart the game and put it back together to push the envelope in combat mechanics, visuals, and 2D animation in games,” explained, Jamie Cheng, founder of Klei Entertainment.

The original Shank was released for the same platforms last year. It features three main types of weaponry – a pair of knives, heavy melee weapons and firearms. Apart from that, the game also allowed players to perform grapple attacks, throw enemies, and carry out pounce maneuvers.

EA and Klei Entertainment plan to release Shank 2 in early 2012 for PSN, Xbox Live and PC. The game is yet to receive a definite release date.
