Tekken 6 kicks onto consoles by the end of October

Tekken titles have been around since 1994 while the first installment was originally an arcade game. Tekken 6 is the latest inclusion into the popular fighting series. The title hit Japanese arcades back in 2007. Namco Bandai Games Europe announces that the new Tekken installment would release on 30 October, 2009.

When unveiled, the game will be available in standard retail, limited editions and Arcade Stick. Tekken 6 is filled with new offline and online gameplay features along with a great character line-up. Players can also look out for a Tekken 6 PlayStation 3 hardware bundle which will be out only in selected regions. The company offers fans of the franchise fast character reaction time as well as consistent 60fps visuals.

Tekken 6 posses many online features and is supported through the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Some of these features include Ranked Match and Player Match where gamers can battle opponents from all across the globe in an online versus mode complete with voice chat functionality. They can also design and upload their very own ghost characters which mirror their fighting style to the tee. Players from anywhere can take the customized ghost in order to fight one-on-one with even when the player is not online. Replays of great matches can also be uploaded.

Katsuhiro Harada, Tekken Project Director, Namca Bandai Games Inc. commented, “The development team, myself included, have poured heart and soul into the series for 15 years so it is with great excitement that we await the release of the game and seeing it in the hands of the fans. We are also pleasantly surprised at the overwhelming attention the title has received from the media and fans alike. Tekken 6 is the pinnacle of the series and we look forward to the reaction from gamers worldwide once they’ve had a chance to play it.”

Another feature includes Scenario Online Co-op which is set to invade this winter as a free post-launch downloadable update. There are also two player online co-op campaigns which are fought against AI controlled foes. All the players’ ranking and points are noted on leaderboards. This includes Battle Points and Rank on and offline. Some of the other ranking types comprise of Ranked Match, Time Attack, Survival and Scenario Campaign.

The Exclusive PlayStation Home consists of Tekken 6 Title Lounge. This features Host Versus and Co-op Sessions where Online Scenario co-op mode is free this winter. Gamers also stand a chance to acquire exclusive costume pieces and furniture at the Lounge via Home Rewards. Tekken 6 boasts of the original Scenario Campaign mode as well as the biggest roster of fighter ever to be included in one Tekken game.

A first for the franchise, this new installment is set to release onto many different platforms like Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP. While the game is expected to release in Europe and PAL territories by the end of this month, the PSP version would enter stores later this fall. The price is still not disclosed by the company.
