This first title takes place following an undead apocalypse, and revolves around four folks who must encounter waves and waves of relentless zombies, as they move together in a cooperative manner.

You can either choose to go single-player with AI controlled counterparts, or play the campaign in co-op with a maximum of four buddies. Moreover, an eight-player online versus mode and a four-player survival mode also forms part of this title which is available now for PC, Mac and Xbox 360.

2 – Call of Duty: Black Ops

Now we know, this list specifically reads zombie games, but we’ll also be including expansions, modes and mods for the sheer reason that they’re as enjoyable as a game can be on its own. That said, Zombies is the name of the mode which has kept Call of Duty: Black Ops players busy ever since its launch. It can be dived into solo, with two-player split-screen or online with up to four others.

Two maps are available initially – one which lets you play as John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Robert McNamara and Fidel Castro, and the other which lets you fight as characters from CoD: World at War. And then, there is an unlockable map as well as various expansions for the game that add more maps for this mode.

The House of the Dead series of Arcade games recently grabbed limelight for its foray into PSN with support for the PS Move accessory as well as Trophies. This awesome game really has some brilliant gameplay in its store.

With support for two players at a time, its grants you a horror experience as you indulge in its on-rails first-person shooting action. Moreover, the PSN version even features some extra levels that weren’t a part of the original Arcade game.

4 – Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned

The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is its first piece of DLC which was launched by Gearbox Software in the same year as its release. The developer has infused into it a commendable story which leads you to new quests, items and enemies who of course come in the form of the undead. Two players can play it with split-screen, while up to four folks can go for online or LAN play.

5 – Left 4 Dead 2

The fifth entry to our roster of FPS zombie games is a sequel to the first title from this list. Available now for PC, Mac and Xbox 360, and soon to be heading to Linux, L4D2 invites you into an undead mayhem which is being countered by four new characters, that you’ll be controlling.

Its overall presentation with respect to the characterization, the neatly designed environments, and most importantly, its shooting mechanics, leave a mark on your mind, bringing you back to the game time and again. And lots of different kinds of undead have been infused into it for you to slay.

6 – DayZ

DayZ

DayZ is the mod for Arma II which gave the otherwise dreary game the sales and popularity that it currently enjoys. It is set in a fictional post-Soviet state of Chernarus that has most of its population turned into zombies owning to an unknown virus. It is a multiplayer open world survival horror mod which asks you to simply do three things; scavenge for food and other commodities; kill zombies and bandits or just stay away from them; and lastly, survive by any means.

It can be played either in third or first-person perspectives. This phenomenon of a kind is right now enjoying a commendable popularity thanks to its usual and incredibly scary gameplay. This in turn has led the developers to announce a full standalone game based on the mod, slated to arrive later this year.

7 – Call of Duty: World at War

World at War is the game that started the undead invasion of Call of Duty games in 2008. The content in question comes in the form of a mode named Nazi Zombies which allows for a maximum of four players to ward off unending waves of undead Nazi soldiers.

It can be played either co-op or solo, and features some really intense gameplay that makes it one of the most sought after FPS zombie games around. A few extra downloadable map packs for this mode have also been released by developer Treyarch. The game can now be purchased for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

8 – Dead Island

Dead Island cannot essentially be called an FPS, but it is a first-person perspective game which involves zombies. The fictional island of Banoi houses a large tropical resort hotel which is visited by folks hoping to unwind for a while. But all hell breaks loose when a mysterious plague starts turning the resident into zombies.

You step into the shoes four of the few survivors who must escape the island at any cost. The game’s open world nature gives it an all-new dimension, whereas its unique weapon system is a nice addition as well.
