MotorStorm Apocalypse Announced for PS3, scheduled for early 2011

Just recently there were images of possibly another game in the MotorStorm series floating around. Now quelling all speculation, MotorStorm Apocalypse, the next game in the outrageous racing series, has been officially announced in a PlayStation Blog post by Matt Southern, Game Director at Evolution Studios.

Apocalypse will be set in what is referred to as “The City”, based on the West Coast of America, and more particularly, on the Bay Area of California. We will not be moving to urban streets though, and the game will see brutal urban off-road racing.

A tremor has caused the city to be damaged and evacuated. This is exactly the kind of opportunity the ‘Stormers have been looking out for and they head into the seemingly empty city. But it soon becomes evident that the city isn’t completely empty and that Mother Nature isn’t finished yet. The brilliance here is that as you race the city will be torn to bits, in real-time, creating new paths and affecting emergent gameplay.

MotorStorm Apocalypse will be full of blistering action as two groups have stayed behind in all the destruction and seem to be helping the city on its way. And Matt Southern states that the game is not post-apocalyptic, it’s apocalyptic. It’s survival racing. Another interesting feature about the game is that every single-player race will be unique. If a building comes down when racing on a particular track, it will still be down the next time you choose to race on the same track. You will only see the same thing twice if you choose to.

MotorStorm Apocalypse packs in a completely overhauled “Wreckreation” mode and it features 16-player online multiplayer, four player split-screen, and get this, a combination of both! This means that you can race a few players on one console as well as others online at the same time. You will be able to customise your vehicle, changing vinyls, vehicle parts, and even vehicle shapes. You will even be able to upload your creations to the community site.

The features of MotorStorm Apocalypse just go on and on. The game will introduce vehicle perks with which you will be able to modify handling, boost, and offensive capabilities. It will also feature loads of online rewards as well as a Game Mode Creator. To top it off, the loading screens in the game have been replaced with cut-scenes.

We have word that MotorStorm Apocalypse is scheduled to release early in 2011 for the PS3. We just hope this game is playable in some form at E3.
