Atari on a spree of reimagining Classics, Announces Yars’ Revenge

The interactive entertainment producing company Atari has come a long way since creating its original titles such as Pong, Missile Command and Centipede. Who could have thought back in the golden age of arcade video games that these 8-bit titles would ever see the digital brilliance of the next millennia? Along with reviving these classics earlier this month, it has now announced to offer Yars’ Revenge in new cinematic gaming experience through XBLA, PSN and Windows PC Download in the first quarter of 2011.

Yars’ Revenge, for those unaware, is an all-time bestselling arcade shooter for Atari 2600 that became one of the titles that gave birth and popularized the shoot ‘em up side-scrollers back in the 80s. The new remake of this renowned classic is illustrated in an anime art style along with an engaging narrative that represents the game in new creative luminosity.

“Yars’ Revenge is one of the most popular Atari games of all time, leaving fans eager to experience the next chapter,” comments Jim Wilson, President and CEO of Atari. “The new Yars’ Revenge updates this classic with anime inspired art direction, intense aerial battles and local co-op gameplay.”

Featuring rigorous battles, multiple endings, immersive landscapes and local co-op gameplay, Yars’ Revenge puts players in the character of Yar who is brainwashed to act on the deprecated will of Qotile Empire. The title depicts a bio-technologically wasted world of Qotile that presents breath-taking backdrops for gamers to engage in intensifying aerial combat against their enemies. Journeying through an extremely narrowed objective after being shot and rescued by the mystifying Bar Yargler, she now seeks vengeance from her former master as well as his deadly squad of assassins.

Yars’ Revenge is being developed by Killspace Entertainment and is expected to be released in early 2011.
