Dragon Quest Swords Makes its Wii Debut

Square Enix has revealed that a new version of the game Dragon Quest will be released across all PAL territories in Spring 2008. The new game is titled Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. This game is exclusive to the Nintendo Wii console.

“We are delighted to be announcing our first Wii title for PAL territories. The Dragon Quest series is a phenomenon in Japan that has already sold over 43 million units worldwide, but is still relatively new to Europe. With today’s announcement of Dragon Quest Swords and the forthcoming release of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker on the Nintendo DS, the series is set to charm more fans throughout the world.”, commented John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd.

The game is an action packed adventure series in which the player is the hero of the story. The game uses the functions of the Wii remote as a sword and as a shield. The direction of attack would depend on the direction which the player sways the Wii remote. To use it as a shield, the player must hold the A button while blocking the exact location of the enemy’s attack on the screen. So fight off innumerable monsters with your legendary sword, use your shield to parry attacks and launch powerful counter-combo moves.

Dragon Quest Screenshot 2 Dragon Quest Swords contains features such as a system to power up weapons and the capability to perform a variety of powerful attacks. The player is put in the shoes of a young man who must pass a test in order to become an Avalonian warrior. During the course of the game which gives a first person perspective you will be able to notice the variety of different and colorful enemies, who are bought to life by the Wii’s animation and graphics capabilities. The game also has a beautifully composed music score by Koichi Sugiyama. Game text has also been put up in four different languages besides Japanese, namely English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Square Enix is responsible for some of the best selling games like Final Fantasy and the Dragon Quest series. Dragon Quest is currently the second best selling game in the Japanese market. Let’s hope that this version of the Dragon Quest legacy lives up to its name.
