Rise of the Tomb Raider is indeed headed to PC and PS4, but only next year

Fans were really disappointed to hear that the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbox exclusive when it was first announced. This had forced its makers to make it clear that it will indeed be released on other platforms but later than its Xbox launch date, making it a timed exclusive for Microsoft’s consoles.

Square Enix has now announced that it will come onboard as a publisher for the PC and PS4 versions of the game, with Microsoft Studios acting as the publisher on only its Xbox One and Xbox 360 variants which is not a surprise. What’s disappointing though is that PC and PS4 owners will have to wait until next year to play Rise of the Tomb Raider.

And it’s worse for owners of Sony’s console than it is for the PC brigade. While the game will hit Windows 10 and Steam in early 2016, it will only be arriving for the PS4 during the holiday season of 2016. That gives it a timed exclusivity on Microsoft’s platforms for one whole year.

Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released for the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 on November 10 this year. This action adventure offering will act as a sequel to the Tomb Raider reboot that was launched back in 2013 to tremendous critical acclaim.

The earlier game focused on the roots of the Lara Croft character, exploring how circumstances forced her into the kind of adventures that will later go on to define her lifestyle. This new entry to the series will focus on her coming to terms with her destiny.
