Konami scrapes off Hideo Kojima’s name from Metal Gear Solid V’s box

That the relationship between Hideo Kojima and Konami has come to an abrupt end is no secret, but the publisher seems to be going to extreme lengths in order to distance itself from the legendary game director. In a new move, it has taken off the names of Kojima himself as well as his studio from the packaging materials of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

It’s a well-known fact that the ties between Hideo Kojima (and his company Kojima Productions) and Konami have been severed, but both the parties will be working together until the launch of the latest game. That being the case, it’s still unclear why the publisher has decided to erase references to the actual developers from the title’s box art.

The new packaging for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain does not feature either the logo of Konami Productions or the line, ‘A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME.’ Not too long ago, the voice actor for Big Boss, Akio Otsuka had let everyone know that the relationship between Kojima and Konami is to officially come to an end.

This was provided credence by a couple of immediate moves made by Konami. Firstly it cancelled the much anticipated reboot of Silent Hills which was again being helmed by Hideo Kojima, and then it removed the free playable teaser for it from PSN.

Hence, the last product of the decades-long association between Kojima and Konami will be Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This game is all set to be released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 1 and for PC on September 15.

It’ll be interesting to see where Hideo Kojima goes after his departure from Konami.
