Outlast 2 is in the works, new characters and setting to be used

Indie developer Red Barrels Games has revealed that Outlast 2, a sequel to last year’s utterly scary first-person survival horror game is in the works at the moment. While no other key details regarding the title are available right now, it has indeed been revealed that it will adopt a new setting and be based on fresh characters as well. As for when it’ll be ready for release, there’s still a lot of time for that since the studio just consists of 12 people and the game has just been conceived.

The co-founder of Red Barrels Games, Philippe Morin revealed this news during a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting. He said that after the release of the Xbox One version of Outlast this June, the studio took some time to analyze its situation, and quickly came to the conclusion that it wanted to deliver at least one more horror game. This eventually led to Outlast 2 coming into existence.

The original Outlast was both developed and published by Red Barrels Games, which happens to be a company consisting of programmers who’ve formerly worked on game franchises like Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell and Uncharted. It was first released for PC through Steam in September last year. And while February saw a port for the PS4 being launched, it was only in June that an Xbox One version saw the light of the day.

Outlast 2 is expected to retain only the basics of its predecessor which will make it a survival horror title played through the first-person perspective, that lets you explore scary environments that in the case of the first game included a dilapidated psychiatric hospital overrun by homicidal patients.
