New Dark gameplay trailer unveiled at GDC, shows vampiric skills

Publisher Kalypso Media has revealed a new gameplay trailer for Dark, its upcoming title, at the ongoing Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, California. The game is scheduled to arrive on the Xbox 360 this summer, with an exact release date yet undecided. Either that or the makers are not ready to unveil much more than the little that can be seen in the footage.

Dark

If little is known about the title, let us shed some light on the matter. It is a video game that relies on stealth aspects and looks a little like the new generation of Batman titles which began with Arkham Asylum. In addition to the hide-and-go-kill aspect, the title will have elements of an action RPG. The new gameplay trailer shows off a few unique features of the game’s main character, Eric Bane.

The plot is simple. Vampires live. And they have survived by hiding in the shadows among men for centuries; the plot of practically every vampire-related story. Bane has just recently ‘turned’ and now harbors a thirst for blood. He awakes to a new sensation; one of great power, but he must navigate a world and get to grips with the fact that vampires are both intriguing and deceitful.

One thing is for sure: players will be presented with the task of taking out mankind’s defenses against the walking dead, the M17 special unit. But Bane finds he must also fight other vampires, minions of a powerful lord of the halfway species. And he has a host of incredible powers at his disposal to escape undetected, kill from a distance and execute interesting finishing moves.

A teaser video was released way back in May of last year (attached below) and oddly showed footage of two soldiers being attacked in a dimly-lit environment. This was seen in a first-person view, even though the title was described as being playable from a third-person perspective. Back then, it was said the game would arrive in early 2013 for the Xbox 360 and the PC, but the latest trailer contradicts that piece of information dropping any mention of a PC release, at least for this summer, if we’re being as optimistic as we can.

That’s all we know of Dark for now. Until the publisher or developer Realmforge Studios decides to announce more, we’ll be left in the, well, dark.
