Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes too taboo to be published in current form – Kojima

MGS boss, Hideo Kojima has spoken about Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, saying that the upcoming game is a bit too taboo to be let out in its current form. The title’s exploration of themes that are yet unfamiliar in the games industry seems to be the main reason behind his apprehension. However, from the looks of the interview through which he revealed this information, it doesn’t look like any major content will be cut from the matter.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is being approached by the iconic designer as ‘a creator,’ and hence, he is ‘prioritizing creativity over sales,’ as stated by him in at a recent round table interview, says VideoGamer. This could spell good news for hardcore fans, but as far as its commercial feasibility is concerned, even Kojima seems to be worried about it. “I’m not even sure if I’m going to be able to release the game, and even if I did release the game then maybe it wouldn’t sell because it’s too much. As a creator I want to take that risk,” he expressed.

Kojima is of the opinion that video games haven’t been able to mature as a medium over the 25 years, and that they still have a long way to go before they do. Comparing the themes explored in modern video games to those in movies and books, he has that the said industry still ‘hasn’t gotten there yet.’ Word around the Internet is that topics such as child soldiers and violence against children are some of the controversial themes that have prompted Kojima to make the statement.

This game was revealed by the developer along with its next-gen Fox Engine late in August last year, and has since been grabbing immense attention from fans. It is currently slated to arrive for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 later this year, but we cannot ignore the possibilities of a next-gen launch, given that Sony has already unveiled its PS4. Another MGS offering is rumored to be on the cards for the future. A vague game titled The Phantom Pain was showcased recently at the Spike VGAs. This title bears hidden clues that indicate that it is indeed MGS 5, disguised as another game, for some reason.
