Epic Games’ Fortnite built with Unreal Engine 4, Coming exclusively to PC

Veteran developer Epic Games has announced that its upcoming project, a co-op sandbox survival title dubbed Fortnite, will be powered by the much anticipated Unreal Engine 4 technology. And the fact that it is meant exclusively for PC has once again fired up the debate of whether current-gen consoles will be able to run graphics rendered by the next-gen engine.

This information was revealed by the developer at a panel in the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con, where Joystiq was present. The website mentions that this game will revolve around three basic elements. One of them is scavenging, where gamers must venture into the monster-infested world to look for survival items, while the second one is building, which will involve them erecting and customizing defense structures of all shapes and sizes. And the last such element is combat.

“We’re here and we’re announcing that this is a PC-designed game, it’s shipping exclusively for the PC. Next-gen’s here. It’s been here. It’s a high-end PC,” stated Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinksi, at the panel discussion held during the San Diego Comic-Con.

This game was first showcased at last year’s Spike Video Game Awards, but since then, Epic has mostly been mum about it until now. Character customization options and randomly generated worlds have also been confirmed by the developer to form part of the game. Since it is a PC-exclusive, speculation is rife that it will come with a free-to-play model, but when questioned, Bleszinksi chose not to talk about it as yet.
