Silent Hill: Downpour Detailed by Producer

Konami will release the much awaited Silent Hill: Downpour in Q1 of this year and the game’s producer has revealed crucial details about the title ahead of its launch. In an interview with a representative of the official PlayStation blog, he has shed some light on factors such as weapons, enemies and interface that will be found within Silent Hill: Downpour.

Silent Hill: Downpour 1

The weapon-carrying system in this game is said to be a rather ‘realistic’ one compared to the previous offerings in the series. The in-game character will be restricted to carrying just two weapons, one being a melee item and the other one, a holstered firearm. Things such as rakes, bottles and kitchen knives will act as weapons in this game and moreover, they will all be breakable, forcing players to use them cautiously. Owing to the developer’s focus of realism, all HUD has been done away with, and the character’s health will be indicated by his body movements.

Silent Hill: Downpour 2

“In Downpour, you’re limited to carrying what’s in your hands, plus a holstered firearm,” Silent Hill: Downpour Producer Devin Shatsky, told the blog. “You’ll want to use your weapons carefully. Each weapon is breakable, so wooden weapons will break after a couple of hits while metal weapons will last longer. Most weapons are everyday items: rakes, bottles, kitchen knives. There are no katanas or the like in this game. The health system has also seen quite a few changes. There’s no HUD; all that information is tied directly to the character, so he’ll limp, bleed, his clothing will develop holes…we tried to focus as much on realism as possible.”

A trademark of sorts for all Silent Hill games, the fog will also be seen making its way into this title. Furthermore, its weather system has been built in a way that it affects the gameplay. Side quests and completely explorable environments are also said to be a part of this upcoming game. Devin also revealed that the Silent Hill HD Collection, which comprises re-mastered versions of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3, is planned for a Q1 release this year. And then there’s Silent Hill: Book of Memories which will launch for the PS Vita around the same time.

Silent Hill: Downpour is now available for pre-order for the PS3 and Xbox 360 at a price of 59.99 USD (approx. Rs. 3,175).
