Splinter Cell Conviction for PC Not Delayed due to DRM Issues

The release dates for Splinter Cell Conviction have faced many delays in the past. The game was earlier pushed into early 2010 and was later observed to be scheduled to release somewhere in April. The reason for delay was attributed to ‘adding a bit more polish’ but many fathomed otherwise.

Now Ubisoft has come out to clear the air on exactly why the game was delayed. The company revealed that the PC version of Splinter Cell Conviction was not delayed due to any issues regarding the DRM but because it had to polish the game a bit. A spokesperson of Ubisoft told Eurogamer, “The reason that has been given for the delay is that the extra time was need to polish and debug the game. The slip has not been linked to the DRM.”

The DRM measures require a constant Internet connection in order to play Splinter Cell Conviction. If the connection even drops a little, players are taken back to the main menu without saving any progress. This feature was one of the root causes for controversy amongst PC players. This particular system was also observed to be present in Assassin’s Creed 2 and Silent Hunter 5.

Last month, Ubisoft confirmed that Splinter Cell Conviction has gone gold for the Xbox 360. As Eurogamer suggests, the PC version can be expected two weeks later after the Xbox 360 release.
