SOCOM is the series of third person tactical shooter video games published by Sony. The latest in the series SOCOM: Confrontation hit North America in October 2008 and Europe in March last year. Now Jeremy Dunham, Senior Community Manager at Zipper Interactive has made a huge announcement on the PlayStation Blog. He writes that SOCOM 4 is in development exclusively for the PS3, and will be released this fall.
In the game, a militant revolutionary has taken control in an important South Asian country. Players are cast as the Ops Com, and have to command a very elite five-man squad trying to stop the rebel. In a span of six days, players must lead their team through a perilous jungle as well as urban environments as they take on a small army of rebel insurgents.
SOCOM 4 will apparently also have a 32-person multiplayer mode which is said to have more Special Forces units than ever before. There might even be female character in the game.
SOCOM 4 is currently a working title, so we might see the “US Navy Seals” creep into the game’s name when it releases in the fall of 2010.
