G.I. Joe Video Game on its way, EA announces

EA has announced that they will be releasing a G.I. Joe video game for all major video game platforms in the summer of 2009. The game will be launched along with the release of the movie G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra from Spyglass Entertainment and Paramount Pictures in association with Hasbro.

“G.I. Joe has been an icon of action for 45 years,” stated Mark Blecher, GM of Digital Gaming and Media at Hasbro. “EA has tapped the legacy of the ‘G.I. Joe vs. Cobra’ saga to create an amazing interactive experience inspired by the movie, comic books, animated series and iconography that we hope will resonate with millions of fans.”

“As Hasbro and Paramount Pictures reignite the G.I. Joe property this year with an all-new toy line and film, EA is excited to play a major role in bringing this icon of pop culture history to a new generation of enthusiasts through interactive gaming,” mentioned Chip Lange, GM and VP of EA Hasbro. “G.I. Joe offers exceptionally rich storylines and a cast of characters that lends itself incredibly well to creating an over-the-top action adventure video game, that will thrill gamers as well as G.I. Joe fans.”

The G.I. Joe video game is an extension of the live-action movie, taking players back to the days of the cartoon series and when they played with their action figures. The game will star 12 G.I. Joe characters, each with his or her unique weapons, moves and abilities. Apparently, there is slated to be deep single-screen co-op modes letting two players unite as a team with no trouble at all, so that they can establish their place in the battle against the Cobra Organization.

The G.I. Joe video game is being developed for the Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii and for mobile devices. The game is expected to be released in summer this year.
