Battlefield 1943 to Release in July, says DICE

We reported earlier about Digital Illusions CE’s plan to release the FPS, Battlefield 1943 around the middle of this year. DICE has now announced that the WWII based action game will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace and PSN in July.

Battlefield 1943

Putting their battle skills to the test, this multiplayer game has players fighting in water, sky and land. The game features the Guadalcanal, Wake Island, Coral Sea and Iwo Jima maps from the Battlefield 1942 game . It also has 2 new gameplay modes which can be played across these 4 revamped maps. DICE’s Frostbite engine makes almost the entire game environment in the maps destructible, so players will now have to work harder to find strong cover from enemy fire.

Players on both, Xbox Live and the PSN will have to work together in order to register 43 million kills in the Coral Sea Map, unlocked especially for the global community challenge. Up to 24 online players can try their hand at achieving this monumental task. Stepping in the shoes of tank commanders, riflemen and pilots, players will have to swear allegiance to either the Imperial Japanese Navy or US Marines.

Gordon Van Dyke, Producer on Battlefield 1943 commented, “Battlefield 1943 is going to change consumer expectations of what a downloadable game can be. By offering Frostbite’s next generation destruction technology with a full Vehicle Warfare FPS multiplayer experience at a mere 560MB, Battlefield 1943 sets a new standard. Our goal is to blow people away with a fully accessible, retail-calibre game for veteran Battlefield fans and shooter fans alike to enjoy for only £9.99.”

Battlefield 1943 is developed by DICE and will be released on Xbox Live Marketplace on July 8, 2009 and on the PSN on July 9, 2009. The game will be priced at GBP 9.99 (approx. Rs. 480) or 1200 MS Points. The PC version of the game is expected to be available sometime in September.
