Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the sequel to the hugely successful Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Uncharted 2 was earlier rumored to be set in Tibet. Now, Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed that the game will have cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes for online play.
Developed by Naughty Dog, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will feature competitive multiplayer in which up to 10 players can play in a 5-versus-5 battle. Also, cooperatively up to three players can make their way through various environments and complete objectives. Currency is earned in single-player and in ranked and custom matches which can be used to unlock content and upgrades.
“Adding a multiplayer aspect to the Uncharted franchise is a significant step in the replayability of the game,” Christophe Balestra, co-president of Naughty Dog explained. “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be the most impressive and ambitious game that Naughty Dog has done and we are thrilled to let our fans experience it this fall.”
Death Match and Plunder, also called Capture The Treasure, are included in the competitive gameplay. Plunder is a unique multiplayer mode in which players must work as a team to transport a treasure over varied terrain. Maps are based on the environments featured in the single-player campaign. Players can even create custom games so as to use any map to play any type of game.
A consumer beta program for the game is planned from June 3, 2009 to June 28, 2009, and those who buy the first copies of inFamous when it releases May 26, 2009 will have the option to test Uncharted 2’s multiplayer modes. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves follows Nathan Drake as he uncovers the truth behind the Shambhala, the Himalayan valley and the lost fleet of Marco Polo.
