GTA IV to Rake in $400M in One Week?

Besides the gamers, the folks over at Rockstar Games are eagerly awaiting the release of Grand Theft Auto IV. The third person action adventure game is already being backed by many to have the biggest debut of all time. An article on Variety indicates that GTA IV could rake in as much as $400 million in revenue in the first week.

Sources, who are close to Take-Two Interactive, have told the Hollywood trade mag that Grand Theft Auto IV could sell six million copies after it launches worldwide on April 29, 2008. Usually, video game companies do not release such data. However, they are able precisely forecast about the game sales as they have information from the retailers as to how many copies have been ordered.

Six million copies of GTA IV would rake in $400 million, which will be close to the amount, that the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End movie made. But it will surpass the biggest videogame launch record held by Microsoft, who sold some five million units of Halo 3, or if you look at in terms of money, it was some $300 million in its first week.
