Super Smash Bros. Brawl Sells More than Half a Million Copies in Japan

There are lots of complaints about the Nintendo Wii stating that there are not enough third party titles. But then who needs third party titles when you have Nintendo churning out games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl (SSBB). The game has sold more than half a million copies in Japan.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released in the land of the rising sun on January 31, 2008. More than 500,000 copies of SSBB were sold, which means that some eighty percent of the game’s total shipments in Japan have already been sold. These numbers are quite significant as even Super Mario Galaxy sold just 130,000 copies when it was launched in Japan. DMC 4 for the PS3 had sold some 140,000 copies at the time of release.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is one of the eagerly awaited games of the year for the Wii. The reception of the game in Japan does give some indications of how the game will be received in North America, where SSBB is expected to launch on March 9, 2008. The game was expected to release in 2007 but was delayed to 2008. Super Smash Bros. Brawl had many fans even in the gaming industry as Ken Levin had said that he too was excited by the game.
