Sierra Officially Announces next-gen Chronicles of Riddick

Last week, we had reported that Chronicles of Riddick is going to make a comeback and would release on the next-gen consoles. Vivendi Games’ Sierra Entertainment has now officially announced The Chronicles of Riddick for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. The game is basically a remake of Escape from Butcher Bay.

Sierra Chronicles of Riddick Game

The new game, which is called “The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena” will offer gamers a new single-player experience. Along with the single-player campaign mode, the game will feature intense multi-player combat. It will be based on the menacing Merc-ship Dark Athena, which sits silent like a prowling spider, awaiting helpless prey in the dark reaches of the galaxy.

Gamers take on the feared Captain Revas and her slaves-turned-controllable battle drones. They will have access to a plethora of weapons like shanks, shotguns, or assault rifles. Riddick’s haunting ‘eye shine’ that allows him to see without ambient light will also feature in The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.

Ian Stevens, Lead Game Designer, Starbreeze Studios explains, “We are very pleased to be working in the Riddick universe again. Assault on Dark Athena gives us a chance to revisit the original game and share it with a new audience, as well as offer a continuation of the Butcher Bay gameplay and plot. We’re also excited to be bringing Multiplayer to the game.”

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is being developed by Starbreeze Studios and is being produced under license from Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group in association with Vin Diesel’s Tigon Studios. It will release for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 later this year.
