I know the headline bought a BIG smile on the face of all the Gears of War fans. It is true! According to a Variety report, New Line has bought the movie rights of the shooter game. The Gears of War movie script will be done by Stuart Beattie, who has previously worked on films like Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Collateral and Derailed.
Mark Rein VP & co-founder Epic Games said, “We wanted to make an entertainment property that’s not just for games but for other media. Our first and foremost philosophy is to do no harm, so we debated heavily the idea of doing a movie at all. But we feel we stacked the deck in our favor by working with the best players.”
Lead designer of Gears of War, Cliff Bleszinski will be the executive producer of the film, while Marty Bowen and will produce the film via their Temple Hill banner. Wyck Godfrey said, “I’m not a gamer, but what blew me away about ‘Gears’ was how it captures the mythology of a war mission and how high the stakes are.”
However, New Line has not disclosed details regarding the director, the cast or when the filming will start. I think WWE wrestler Batista would make a very good Marcus Fenix!
