Revised Version of Manhunt 2 Rejected by BBFC

The Manhunt 2 saga is going on for very long! It all started when BBFC refused to give ratings to the game. Rockstar later appealed the ban to the Video Appeals Committee in the UK. Now the British Board of Film Classification has also rejected the revised version of Manhunt 2.

David Cooke is the director of the BBFC. He has pretty strong views on the issue and has explained the reasons why they had to reject the revised version of Manhunt 2.

Here is what David Cooke had to say:

“We recognize that the distributor has made changes to the game, but we do not consider that these go far enough to address our concerns about the original version. The impact of the revisions on the bleakness and callousness of tone, or the essential nature of the gameplay, is clearly insufficient. There has been a reduction in the visual detail in some of the ‘execution kills’, but in others they retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature.

We did make suggestions for further changes to the game, but the distributor has chosen not to make them, and as a result we have rejected the game on both platforms. The decision on whether or not an appeal goes ahead lies with the distributor.”

This decision is sure to get many gamers in the United Kingdom very angry. The Americans sure have it lucky as the ESRB had later given a ‘Mature’ rating to Manhunt 2 and some time ago, there were reports that the game would be released in Holland also. It looks like that Rockstar is not having a great time in Britain. Well, they should ask Sony about it!
