Next PlayStation System Coming into View?

Nintendo’s already working on the successor to the Wii and the company seems geared up for its 2012 launch. Rumors about the next Xbox gaming system being in the works too have surfaced and faded with time. And those who have been waiting to hear such news from Sony’s front, this could be just that resort.

PS4 Rumor

According to a post on Eurogamer, it has received official confirmation from Sony that the company is now developing a new device to ‘follow the PS3.’ When quizzed about the company’s research and development costs, the gaming giant’s executive vice president and chief financial officer Masaru Kato reportedly revealed that the company is allocating funds for crafting the next PlayStation system.

“For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life,” remarked Sony CFO and Executive Vice President Masaru Kato. “But this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.”

Sony’s Kazuo Hirai has previously remarked that the company is not yet looking forward to the next PlayStation iteration. Besides, the company has consistently emphasized on the PS3’s 10 year long life cycle. Nonetheless, the system accomplishes its fifth anniversary this November which opens up enough scope for the manufacturer to ponder over the next device in the PlayStation family.

Whether we’ll actually see a new PlayStation device before the PS3 completes its estimated life cycle is not clear yet. Sony has not issued an official statement with this regards.
