Guitar Hero is coming back, and so is Rock Band

Fans of music games have a reason to smile, even as various clues of both Guitar Hero and Rock Band games being under development have come to our notice. These two franchises are likely to be re-launched on new-gen consoles like the PS4, the Xbox One and the Wii U. While there are high possibilities that old peripherals will work with them, new accessories are apparently being crafted as well.

News about the Rock Band franchise’s return arrived a few days ago when its maker Harmonix suddenly released DLC for previous games from the series. ‘Rize Of The Fenix’ and ‘Back To The Shack’ are the two songs which can be downloaded now, and if their names aren’t clues in themselves, it has been learnt from sources familiar with the matter (via The Sixth Axis) that a new Rock Band title is indeed under development for platforms like the PS4 and the Xbox One.

As for Guitar Hero, word about its revival has come through Kotaku which has quoted two separate sources as saying that Activision is crafting a new game from the series. This offering is likely to be showcased at this year’s E3 where details about its new peripherals can also be expected to arrive. If the report is to be believed, then the new Guitar Hero game will be released by Activision late this year. The two main development studios of these titles, Neversoft and RedOctane, have closed down, so a new studio is likely to helm the development this time around.
