Launch of Nyko Zoom for Kinect Postponed to September 13

Looks like the Kinect will have to deal with its stunted vision longer than expected as the Nyko Zoom which was supposed to ship in August has received a delayed notice. So the peripheral won’t actually reach markets before next month on September 13. The accessory which is said to reduce the required space between users and the Kinect by almost 40 percent was unveiled at this year’s E3.

It was earlier announced by makers that the Zoom would be launching on August 23. But almost out of nowhere, the company pronounced that the date has been pushed to September 13. However, the price of the device remains unchanged.

The Nyko Zoom works on the basis of its proprietary lenses that lessen the needed space between players and the Kinect sensor. This makes it easier for the motion sensing device to be used in modest sized apartments, dorms and small living rooms. The accessory also solves the problem of the Kinect making it difficult for more than two gamers using it at the same time in constrained spaces.

It can be fitted on the Xbox 360 companion with the help of a clip-on and does not require any additional software or calibration. Reducing the play range by 40 percent as mentioned earlier, the Zoom lets users interact with the gaming unit while standing closer to their TV screens.

The September 13 release date of the Nyko Zoom for Kinect looks fixed for now. The device can be pre-ordered in the U.S. and Canada from Amazon, Gamestop, Best Buy and other retailers and is priced at 29.99 USD (approx. Rs. 1,341).
